Motivations for changing employment contracts
As working life has been tipped on its head in so many ways since 2020, so have peoples’ attitudes about the way they work.
Many professionals who previously spent five days a week in office-based roles now expect to be fully remote in order to accommodate other responsibilities away from their desks. Similarly, the outlook on freelance and full-time work has also shifted.
It’s useful for employers of all types to know the motivating factors behind why people move, as well as for NetSuite professionals who may also be considering a similar shift. If you’re someone looking to attract contractor talent, then knowing what appeals to contractors will help you stand out.
By the same token, knowing why people leave full-time roles in order to freelance can be useful—not just in terms of reducing attrition, but also knowing whether a person’s reason fits in with the wider picture or is a problem specific to your individual company.

Conclusion
It’s unlikely to be a massive shock that the higher earning potential available to contractors is the reason that 39% of professionals would consider making the move as early as this year. A cost of living situation that has people paying far more attention to their outgoings than before means that all options are on the table now.
Perhaps more surprising is the fact that a much higher percentage (50%) of contractors would consider switching to a full-time role this year, with the main reason being a competitive salary, followed by job security—two reasons again reflective of the current economic climate. For end users struggling to attract talent, the freelance pool may have previously been thought of as being unattainable. However, the data clearly shows that a solid package will be enough to tempt those professionals into making the leap.
